Introduction

Welcome!

This blogsite is dedicated to a joint project which aims to improve the safety and security of communities living in areas adjacent to the Armenia-Azerbaijan border and the Nagorny Karabakh Line of Contact.

The blog includes an innovative database which, using Google Earth and Google Maps, will record and map out incidents involving targeting of civilians and their property based on information obtained from the communities on the ground on either side of the border areas between Armenia and Azerbaijan. The database is regularly updated based on information received by the project partners from local communities in the border/frontline villages which is checked for verification.

We hope that this innovative method, will bring greater transparency and raise awareness, both nationally and internationally, on local incidents specifically targeting civilians and their property in border/frontline areas of Armenia and Azerbaijan. By providing a powerful community-driven and civil society-assisted message that incidents involving civilians and their property will be recorded and publicised, database also aims to serve as a deterrent for targeting of civilians by convincing the perpetrators that their actions against civilians will not go unnoticed.

View the database here. For further details about the project and about the implementing organisations, please visit the "About the project" and "About partners" pages.

The project is jointly implemented by Saferworld (UK), Civil Society Institute (Armenia) and Humanitarian Research Public Union (former Society for Humanitarian Research) (Azerbaijan).
